Matthew Parrow, Ph.D., is the Associate Dean for Academic Administration in the College of Science. He is a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, where he also served as associate chair for academic programs. He earned his Ph.D. in Plant & Microbial Biology at North Carolina State University in 2003 and joined UNC Charlotte in 2006.

His research interests include aquatic microbial ecology and evolution, harmful algal blooms, and biotechnology applications of fungi and other eukaryotic microbes, with publications including chapters in Freshwater Algae of North America and other canonical textbooks in the field. At
UNC Charlotte he has taught courses in cell biology, plant physiology, and microbiology.

Dr. Parrow is a lifetime member of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society, a Fellow of the Royal Microscopical Society, a National Academy of Sciences Kavli Frontiers of Science Fellow and has published over 40 scientific articles with collaborators and students. His commitment to university governance is exemplified by a distinguished record of service to the department, college, and university, demonstrating his appreciation for the importance of service and administration in academia.
